2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Mixed Reception
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure notified staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a clearer game identity.
The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Strategic Recruitment
The news echoes a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete text from Ismailer's communication:
Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to persist.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to consideration and reimagined the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our fans.
The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following a period of discussions, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.
The President

Title Details and Vision
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year alongside a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the description states. "Face the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and challenges that change every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively take a risk, gamble everything, and pray your squad can secure victory? The choice is in your hands."
Project Ethos has not yet received an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can look forward to more updates as production continues.
