Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior representative stated the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
